End of the Energy Summer School
August the 15th was the final day of the summer school. This year 36 students joined the programme from all over the world. During the summer programme the students learnt about all aspects of renewable energy in Iceland, visited hydro- and geothermal power plants, visited areas of geological interest, stood on a glacier and swam in a hot river in the highlands.
During their final day students presented their final projects that they had been working on during the three week period. Topics covered included: Aesthetics, Efficiency, and Environmental Impact Assessment, Non-Renewable Path to a Sustainable Future, Cascade Use of Geothermal Energy, Geothermal Deep Drilling, Low-Tech Approaches to Sustainable Energy, Carbon Capture and Storage, Smart-Meters/Electricity, Energy in Decentralized Populations, Challenges of Hydrogen Fuel Cells in Iceland.
We wish the 16 students who came for the Summer School good luck in their future endeavours, we hope you are able to take your experience and knowledge learnt in Iceland to begin new and exciting projects in your home lands. To the rest of the group who will be embarking on the full MSc programme at Iceland School of Energy, we look forward to working with you over the next 18 months.
